Many where surprised to find out that the rumors we had been hearing about a new Marvel vs Capcom game were true; we first found the evidence at PlayStation Experience 2016 when MARVEL VS CAPCOM: INFINITE was the first game revealed.  This sent the community into a frenzy as we got to watch the newest cinematic trailer of the versus community's latest game iteration.

What I am going to be doing for this week's Top 5 Tuesday is let you all know which characters I want most in the game from Marvel's side.  This will include characters we have seen in previous series as well as brand new faces you have not seen before.  Go ahead and hit the jump to get the full details.

RoKtheReaper.com has slowed down significantly since last month, there are varying reasons for these.  However, I feel that no reason is truly valid because if you want to do something, you simply make it your business to get it done no matter what.  I feel like my drive to do what needs to be done has not been there, even more, I feel like it has not been something that I need to do, and that is the difference.

This site update is going to focus on what I plan to do and how I am going to implement new policies for myself in order to make this site update consistent, at least, as much as it can be by releasing essential updates on a regular basis to keep a constant flood of content.

Waifu Crush Wednesday is modeled after the popular "#WCW" or "Women Crush Wednesday". This bi-weekly editorial focuses upon female characters in gaming, anime, and manga that I happen to like in one form or another. I will do my best to explain my affinity for that particular character.

An homunculus, in love with a living ancient war relic in the shape of a giant key, as well as a shy narcissist would be perfect to describe A.B.A.  She is my favorite character within the Guilty Gear series and that has not changed since I have originally decided it to be so.  She is going to be my current fictional character of affection for today.  Make sure you hit the jump to check out all the goodness!

Something that I have been wanting to do for RoKtheReaper.com for a very long time is give reviews for nendoroids and statues.  Until recently I have not had the resources to be able to afford to buy the material needed in order to give reviews (the statues themselves), I could also not request any assets due to not being more popular (I tried Kotobukiya's Bishoujo line a few times, to absolutely no avail).  However, that is now going to change.

1st Episode Impressions is an article series which focuses on the very first episode of any particular anime.  Mainly whether-or-not it is able to grasp my attention from the very beginning due to the way it introduces itself.  Also, it acts as a comparison point for my final review of that anime or season.

Keeping up with my recent string of anime, Momokuri is next on my list.  Supposedly about the budding romantic relationship between Yuki Kurihara and Shinya Momotsuki, with the main focus being how each deals with the other.

This site has been getting a lot more active lately, however, it has not been active enough for my taste.  My goal is to make sure that I turn it up a notch and start getting back to some of the roots of RoKtheReaper.com.

You can view everything after the jump, also a separate section discussing things that will be effecting my YouTube channel and Twitch live streams.

Kane Blueriver is a household name within the fighting game community, many knowing of his achievements within the Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 community.  I managed to catch up with him over social media and was lucky enough to snag an interview with the prominent player.

After the jump you will catch the 16 questions I asked him and responses from the Mahvel God himself.

After hearing so much good about an anime called “Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-“, I figured that it might actually be a good idea to start watching it.  After taking the plunge and watching the first 50 minute episode (episode 1A and 1B), I am ready to give my first impression of the series!

I have seen something online about a cute little girl who has been taking over the hearts of otaku everywhere.  In wanting to see more about what this little “daughteru” named Tsumugi was all about, I went ahead and checked out the very first episode of “sweetness and lightning”.  I must say, this series has some potential.

When I first laid my eyes on Titanfall’s debut trailer, I was left with my mouth gaped in absolute awe.  I had wanted a game that embodied the true spirit of giant mech combat while not being limited to being exclusively inside one, like Armored Core.  I bought my Xbox One just to play Titanfall and I was not disappointed by what Respawn Entertainment delivered, not in the least.  I was anxiously awaiting Titanfall 2 and it was announced this year!

I recently played the Multiplayer Tech Test that they held which is supposedly a “Pre-Alpha” build of the game (which makes no sense since it is coming out in October, only 2 months from now).  I was left absolutely disappointed by what I experienced and all of my hype faded away instantly.
How did things go so wrong?

The King of Fighters XIV is the next iteration within the famed SNK series that is renowned and loved around the world.  Their previous title, The King of Fighters XIII, was a brilliant game whose flame died too early, mainly because of the difficult execution, abysmal netcode, and dwindling player base because of these two reasons.

Making the leap that other modern day fighters have taken to 2.5D, creating a simpler system for newcomers, and improving their netcode, will SNK finally have what it takes to come out on top?  Check out the full review after the jump to see!

You all know from my previous article how devout I have been to Arc System Work’s Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-.  I am dedicated to becoming one of the best Elphelt Valentine mains and I have currently been doing a lot better.  This article is set to outline exactly why I am feeling more that way and why those things currently trying to hinder my progress will not be allowed to have their way.

Tuesday, August 09, 2016

Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- came out only a few months ago, the latest iteration of Arc System Works’ famed fighting game series known as “Guilty Gear”.  -REVELATOR- comes after Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- and provided some tweak and balance changes, but still very familiar for those who played -SIGN-…yet I did not have a Playstation 4 to play the first one.

This editorial focuses on my current struggles that exists trying to become competent with Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-.  Whether it is trying to learn character specific combos, converting off of stray hits, or simply learning how to properly apply the neutral game.

Boku no Hero Academia was supposedly one of the best anime of the season.  I had heard many good things about it, I had even seen the fan manga of the current giants of shounen manga passing the torch to the protagonist.  However, I had never actually read any Boku no Hero Academia and had not gotten around to watching the anime as of yet.

Finishing the anime about this 13 episode anime about Michidoriya, a boy who dreams to be a hero but does not have a quirk, I have quite a few things to say about it.  To check out the action packed, hero-oriented review of Boku no Hero Academia, be sure to click the jump and check it all out!

Lately I have been really into Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-, it becoming one of my favorite fighting games because of the visuals, play style, and fierce competitive game play.  Also, I recently switched my main from Jam Kuradoberi to Elphelt Valentine for various reasons; aesthetics, beauty of the combos, and overall presentation of the character.  Due to me loving the character so much, I decided to go ahead and make my second combo video (ever), “Waifu Gotta Shotgun!”.

Inside you will find the combo video itself, details on why I picked Elphelt Valentine out of all the Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-, and notations for every single combo performed in the video!

NOTE  – Be sure to check out my review for Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-!

Since then, CAPCOM has released the full trailer, screenshots, as well as artwork for Balrog, Juri, and Urien.  Go ahead and hit the jump to check out all the goodness including my impressions on the trailer!

OVERWATCH has been out now for a month, and many people have enjoyed countless hours of it (I am already pushing over 40 hours into the game myself, and that is on the low-end compared to some people).  From playing the game, I have seen those at low level (right now I am 72) perform extreme well, I have seen those who have already gotten a star or two perform extremely terrible.  It all comes about what you know, how you play, and who do you play.

From my own personal experience playing OVERWATCH, I have a few tips that I want to share with everyone in order to up their own game.  Hopefully these will shape some better players out of those who take the time to read it, and possibly help garner me with better teammates in the future!

Gaming is something that I absolutely love and adore, it has been with me since I was a 2-year-old little boy who first discovered the Nintendo Entertainment System that my mom brought home for my father.  I spent countless hours playing that Super Mario/Duck Hunt cartridge, trying desperately to beat my high scores or finish the game in record speed.  There was no slowing down as I grew up and continued on through the generations of console gaming; Sega Genesis, Nintendo 64, Playstation, Xbox…it just went on and on.  However, gaming today is a much bigger juggernaut than it was back when I first started out, it is the same but different in so many core aspects.  Today’s gaming media, the entitled and single-minded gaming community, and even the very games we play contribute to what I feel is becoming a toxic environment.

1st Episode Impressions is an article series which focuses on the very first episode of any particular anime; whether-or-not it is able to grasp my attention from the very beginning.  Also, it acts as a comparison point for my final review of that anime or season.

I was told that Erased was a very good anime by several people, but since I had a lack of inspiration to watch anything it unabashedly passed me by.  Now however, I finally got to watch the first season at Bianca’s suggestion…and I was very surprised.

See what I have to say, including the best 10 screenshots taking during the episode!

Blizzard’s first original IP in nearly 17 years has an amazingly strong following right out of the gate. “OVERWATCH” is nothing short of addictive, and many have already enjoyed the game’s take on the objective-based team FPS genre since its release in late May.

Every character within OVERWATCH fits a particular type: Offensive, Defensive, Tank, or Support.  Within each of these classes they are furthered sectioned off by having a particular use for that type.  Each of these characters have a unique “Ultimate”, which is a single ability that provides an incredibly advantageous situation for your team…if used properly.

Here are my top 5 character Ultimates of OVERWATCH!

Titanfall was the whole reason that I got an Xbox One before a Playstation 4.  Being someone who absolutely loved anime, I grew up with awesome action of Gundam Wing, Macross (RoboTech), and Beast King GoLion (Voltron).  It was not a surprise to see an actual video game with these elements in mind would be incredibly fun to play.  Not only that, but pilots were incredibly mobile which means that the camping present in modern games would be less of a thing.

A few years later, we are introduced to a teaser for Titanfall 2 and I could not be more ecstatic!  After waiting a few months until June 1212,  we are finally greeted with some trailers that features in-game footage for both the campaign and multiplayer!  I was quite curious to see what they had for all the fans who loved the original game.

Hit the jump to check out my opinions on both trailers.

Arc System Works worried many a fan when it was said that they would be taking the “Street Fighter” route and going 2.5D with their next iteration of Guilty Gear. Many thought they would fail, especially after the poor reception many had to the initial graphics that Street Fighter IV presented. However, we were shocked and delighted when Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- revealed that it had made the transition to 2.5D while keeping the sole and look of a pure 2D fighter.

Now we have the next entry within the Xrd franchise with Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- which is furthering along the story of -SIGN- while simultaneously making some system changes and bringing both new and old characters to the fray.

Is this a worthy addition to the series that is worth the $60 price tag? Or is this simply a ploy to get the money from the series fans who are willing to support the franchise? Hit the jump to see the full review!

Fans of the popular Hyperdimension Neptunia series are sure to be happy about another game coming out.  Megatagmension Neptune + Blanc VS Zombies features poster girl Blanc (essentially a “tan” of Nintendo consoles) and Neptune (the main character of the Hyperdimension Neptunia series, inspired by an unreleased sega console) in their effort to save their school while battling zombies in this action-based role-playing game.

Those who are curious as to what this game entails and whether-or-not it is worth your hard earned money, be sure to hit the jump to check out RoKtheReaper.com’s full review!

Waifu Crush Wednesday is modeled after the popular "#WCW" or "Women Crush Wednesday".  This bi-weekly editorial focuses upon female characters in gaming, anime, and manga that I happen to like in one form or another.  I will do my best to explain my affinity for the character featured here.

Tomoko Kuroki is the timid, socially awkward heroine of the slice-of-life anime, “Watamote”.  This high school girl became an instant favorite of mine due to her similarities with me, as I shared quite a few of her thought traits.  That and I just think she is just plain adorable!  Hell, I liked her to the point that one of my best friends, Bianca, bought me the Nendoroid of her (not to mention I also named my Xbox One after her!)!

Ibuki, the high school ninja girl whom we were introduced to in Street Fighter III, and once in Street Fighter IV, is going for a three-peat with her debut in Street Fighter V.  Excited yet?  Well, finally got a release of her official trailer and the assets that go along with it after those who tuned into the "Combo Breaker" tournament got an advance peek at it.

Nutaku is currently celebrating its opening of an adult/hentai downloadable games store.  Many people have had a problem with this, with one article I read saying that it was a “new low for gamers”.  Many social justice warriors complained about the localization of “Dead or Alive: Xtreme Beach Volleyball 3” which made Japan think twice about releasing here, thus those who wanted it had to import.  Not to mention various censorship of titles released in the west across the board, even Nintendo’s Fire Emblem titles were not safe from being altered.  Needless to say, western gamers who want to experience a more “adult” taste cannot.

This store is aiming to change all that by providing a way to download risqué titles, and it stands as a win for us gamers who actually want to play these sorts of games but cannot because of an oversensitive crowd.  Hit the jump to hear my full reasoning on why this benefits us in the long run.

The King of Fighters XIV has started to periodically release trailers that highlight a specific team out of the 16 that are available.  The second trailer released happens to be that of "Team Yagami" which focuses on the three combatants (from left-to-right); Mature, Iori Yagami, and Vice.

The trailer has been embedded along with my impressions regarding what we saw out of each combatant.  As of this writing, I have not written an impression for the first trailer which focused on "Team Japan".  This section will be updated with a link to that article once I am finished.

If you are familiar with SNK or The King of Fighters, odds are that you are aware of their busty ninja, Mai Shiranui (The first female character to appear in an SNK fighting game).  I first discovered this girl by playing Fatal Fury: Wild Ambition on Playstation.  However, I really come to love her character due to her appearances in the Fatal Fury animated movies.  Since she is returning with Team Women Fighters in The King of Fighters XIV, I figure I might as well show my favorite SNK girl some love!

Games these days have begun to work on downloadable content (DLC) before games have even launched due to being finished with the core game.  Seems to me that 7th Dragon III Code: VFD has followed suit so gamers know what they can look forward to after finishing what the game launches with.

The press release with all the details is featured inside (includes the downloadable content, their descriptions, as well as pricing).  Also, for those of you who have not seen, I have included the "Battle System Trailer" after the press release.

Grand Kingdom has graced us with a new character trailer (present inside), information regarding digital pre-order deals, as well as including all of the Japanese downloadable content in the release for North America and Europe (All DLC characters as well as the Four Great Nations Campaign DLC).

Those of you who want to check out the official press release, as well as the trailer, screenshots, and details for the pre-order need not look any further!

The Division greeted us with a trailer for their newest update, “1.2: Conflict”.  This trailer told us about all the new features and the new Incursion that is on its way to The Division, and a new feature that they have named, “Hijack Extraction”.  How they have described it is;

“Dark Zone extractions just became even more intense.  Interrupt ongoing extractions by cutting the rope to have all the loop drop to the ground.  Protect your loot at all costs!”

Excuse me, what?!  This is moronic.  Hit the jump to find out my feelings on the subject and why this is a horrendous move by Ubisoft that may deter players from giving The Division another try even more.

With OVERWATCH fast approaching, I wanted share all the information I have found out during the beta.  I have a handful of characters (Mei, Reaper, Reinhardt, and Zarya) whom I want to share my strategies to success.  These should aid those who want to utilize these characters and give their teams the best shot at winning!

Mei-Ling Zhou is quite lovable.  She is a defensive character who is able to slow people down and really aid the team with her ability to throw up ice walls.  While she might have a hard time killing particular heroes on her own, she is no slouch and by far my favorite OVERWATCH character due to her ability to cripple the enemy team's strategy.   Learn to love her like I do!

Thursday, May 12, 2016

OVERWATCH is one of the many new endeavors by Blizzard Entertainment, creators of gems like HearthStone: Heroes of Warcraft, World of Warcraft, and Starcraft.  I first heard about OVERWATCH by its beautiful CGI trailer which introduced the first four heroes in a museum for "OVERWATCH" (which is a global defense force).  I was introduced to Tracer, Widowmaker, Reaper, and Winston.  After seeing this and wanting to try out the game, I finally got my chance to test it for myself.

This Team Fortress styled objective based First Person Shooter recently closed its doors on an open beta for Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC.  After getting to participate within it, I want to share my general experience with the game.  While this impressions piece will not be so incredibly detailed as to go over every single character’s ins and outs (something I will save for the full game’s review), I will give you my impressions over the general cast and how the game works.

Friday, May 06, 2016

Gears of War 4 is currently on the horizon and will bring a new trilogy to classic Gears of War series.  To ensure a healthy multiplayer experience, a beta was currently held (which I participated in, but not enough to really give it a thorough review).  However, during the final day of the beta I was fortunate enough to play a bit of the “Dodgeball” mode, and I can say without a doubt that it is the best thing to be added to the Gears of War multiplayer series thus far.  In fact, rather than making the default game mode “Team Death Match”, they should simply take it out altogether and replace it with Dodgeball.

For those of you who do not think this should be, I suggest you read my reasoning as to why this is a smart idea.  Go ahead and hit the jump.

To be honest, I had always liked the aesthetic look of Chie Satonaka ever since I heard of Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4.  As you all might know from my recent slew of articles, I recently completed Persona 4 the Golden on Playstation Vita and am busy watching Persona 4 the Golden ANIMATION (even wrote a 1st Episode Impression for it!).  With Chie being my “best girl”, figured that it would only be right that I highlight her in this week’s Waifu Crush Wednesday!

ALERT!   - The picture of Chie Satonaka used as this article's featured image, as well as the one used after the jump were both drawn by Ilya Kuvshinov.  You can find his deviantART with links to his other social media accounts HERE.

Recently I have completed Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 the Golden on Playstation Vita.  I played this Japanese role-playing game for a couple of reasons: the first being that Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 5 was due out sometime this year and that Persona 4 was regarded as one of the greatest games of all-time.  I am now really wanting to view the anime since the game made a lasting impression upon me.

Fast forward to day, I have taken the first step of watching this fantastic anime.  You will see my impressions regarding everything below, even how it compares to the game that it was based off of.

Last Thursday we were greeted by a brand new trailer for The King of Fighters 14.  This brand new trailer will mark the 11th released for the game and features two brand new characters; MUIMUI of the "Alternate World" team and "Kukri" of the "Palace Wan" team (as described by a reputable source that shows the full roster for KOF XIV).

Even though this trailer released last week, I was not able to properly give my impressions over the two characters.  Let us remedy that!

Galko-chan is an anime character whom I have come to through various sightings across the internet.  I had no idea the origin of this character, but that many professed that people were going to get hooked on her once the manga had an anime adaption.  Lo-and-behold, I find out that Please Tell Me! Galko-chan has an anime already out!

Despite some of the...ecchi things surrounding this series, I figure I would give it a go.  Documenting my first impressions of this initial episode, I figure I would see what the hype was all about!

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure has recently concluded the third part within the series titled "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders".  After such a magnificent finish following part 1's "Phantom Blood" and part 2's "Battle Tendency", it seems hard that something else would be able to beat the build up and finale to one of the greatest villans I have ever seen.  However, the announcement came that we would be getting the 4th iteration titled "Diamond is Unbreakable" starting April 1st.

I have finished watching the very first episode and I am ready to give my impression of it.  With a new art style, new JoJo, and a new story, will this be able to hold up to the excellence exhumed from the first three chapters of this amazing  story?

Cammy White is my waifu, as you all should know.  I have the bishoujo series statue of her by Kotobukiya and I have played her as my main character in every fighting game she has appeared, and it proves no different for Street Fighter V.

After playing her for a good while, and right now standing in the “Super Silver” rank, I want to give you guys my impressions on her during this month and a half of release time.  Did my leotard wearing Goddess hold up to my expectations?  You will have to read to find out!

Grand Kingdom, a Role-Playing Game, has now announced the classes revealed.  They are separate into four major categories of Mage, Melee, Ranged, and Specialists.  Every class specializes in a particular thing with the ability to counter one of the other classes to provide true tactical strategy.  The full breakdown of every class type is right inside.

Grand Kingdom debuts on Playstation 4 and Playstation Vita in Europe June 17th and June 21st in North America.

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 is one of the highest ratest games of all-time.  Nearly everyone has heard of the famous Japanese RPG series Persona, and even more so about the 4th installment.  Finally getting a chance to play the game, I picked up Persona 4 Golden on Playstation Vita recently (Thanks a million Seruki Love!).  The game was going brilliantly…until I realized you can form romantic relationships.  This has made me re-analyze my current approach to the game.

After my relationship with the Symphonic Band’s resident trombone player, “Ayane”, went up to “intimate” and she said she was my “girlfriend”, I immediately reverted to my previous save file.  I had to figure out if this was the right move or not.  While I understand you can have multiple girlfriends without it interfering too much with the way the game works (or so my research says), I would really like to save something like that to a second play-through.  What I would like to do right now is figure out which girl I want to be my main girlfriend (and obviously I do not want it to be Ayane) and yet I am stuck between Chie Satonaka, Yukiko Amagi, and Rise Kujikawa.
